This is the Best Season of Your Life
The days are getting shorter, colder and wetter here in London. I’m suddenly very aware that the end of the year is nearly here - a year that will be one of the most memorable of my life and yet I find myself already dreading the dark winter and longing for the spring again.
Isn’t it funny? The way we want to be some place or time where we’re not but where everything will somehow be perfect?
In winter, we look forward to spring.
In summer, we look forward to winter.
When X happens, then I’ll be happy.
What if this season, this moment, was the best one of your life?
This is the best season of your life
This moment is fleeting and it’s the only one we ever have. Look around you at your life and loved ones - this is the only time they will be just like this.
And I notice how I want to hang on to the good ones, to the lazy Sundays cuddled up with my partner and all my worries seem to melt away. And I want to escape the tough ones, the doubts, the anxieties, the stresses.
I’m tempted to fight it. To somehow deny the passage of time resist reality itself.
That way lies madness.
Stop and smell the flowers
So I’m trying to remember to slow down and enjoy this season in my life for what it is.
Easier said than done.
So I use 3 questions to help bring me back to this present, wonderful moment:
What can I appreciate right now?
What am I learning?
How do I want to be in this moment?
Awareness and choice.
One day, this moment will be a memory. And whether it is Type 1 or Type 2 fun, you will never get this moment back. So can you enjoy it for the life-full moment that it is?
*Type 1 fun is actually fun in the moment, Type 2 fun is an experience that only becomes ‘fun’ with a bit of time & distance and make the best stories
